History[]
GSG9 ("GSG 9 der Bundespolizer" or "GSG 9 of the Federal Police", formerly the "Grenzschutzgruppe 9" or "Border Guard Group 9") is the elite counter-terrorism and special operations unit of the German federal police. This Special Force was established after the humiliating blunder of the German police in the 1972 Olympics known as the “Munich Massacre."
From this tragedy, the Germans realized that a counter terrorists force was needed to safe guard the public. The Grenzschutzgruppe 9 or Border Guard Group 9 (GSG9) was established in April 16, 1973 with Ulrich Wegener as its leader. Driven to save their country’s face, the GSG9 has thwarted several terrorist operations including the 1977 “Operation Fire Magic” which was considered one of the most difficult hostage situation a Special Force could face. Also, the GSG9 swept the SWAT World Challenge in 2005 where they won all the events.
Availability[]
- Available in all CrossFire versions.
Trivia[]
- GSG9's BL side is equipped with an unusable smoke helmet.
- GSG9 is the first black character featured in CrossFire, though it's only available in CF West, CF Brazil and CF Philippines, as there is an alternate white version of the character for various servers.
- Later, it was followed by BOPE. However, B.O.P.E doesn't have the alternate white version like GSG9.
- In CF China, GSG9 shares the same HUD with Flying Tigers instead.
- Unlike most recently updated characters (except ULP-X and SWAT-Elite in Mileage Shop), GSG9 is available in Item Shop in CF Vietnam, making him the third character available in Item Shop in CF Vietnam, after N-22 and ULP. It cost 79 GoCoin to own GSG9 permanently, the same price with N-22.
- Also in CF Vietnam, there are two problems concerning GSG9 character:
- First, their name is misspelled as "G9".
- Second, HUD image of BL side is reused from SWAT character, down to the tattoo. Players have been complaining endlessly but VTC still didn't fix the errors nor give out any official explanation. Small talks claim that since the character is put in Item Shop, VTC won't bother fixing them because they won't get more money like the one in Black Market.
- It's actually that the alternate white version of this character doesn't have its own HUD at first place as seen in other CF versions, so unless the developers decide to remake his HUD, there's no way to fix it.
- Also in CF Vietnam, there are two problems concerning GSG9 character:
- Again in CF Vietnam, after the arrival of the new Loading Screen to CF Vietnam, the loading icon and item icon of this character on the BL side is used from the black version while the in-game model and HUD is white instead.
- This also happened in CF Philippines except it's opposite and both the character on the BL and GR side is used from the white version while the in-game model and HUD is black instead. It's still not yet fixed.
